According to both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, lips have a great deal to tell us about our health. Your lip’s shape, size, color and condition is a direct link to your health. This is such a wonderful tool to prevent serious illness.

The Upper Lip:

The top of your upper lip reveals how your stomach is functioning.

The Lower Lip:

The lower lip is directly linked to the colon.

The Corners of the Mouth:

The corners of the mouth show the condition of the duodenum, which is the valve connecting the stomach to the small intestine.

Let’s get to reading your lips (some clear signs of poor health):

  • Swollen lips are a sign of a swollen or impacted digestive tract. What this means to you, is that you probably suffer from constipation or sluggish elimination. Try drinking more water to help flush your system and consuming foods high in fiber. We also recommend colonics.
  • Cold sores, caused by a virus, is a sign that you may be under stress and that your immune system in compromised.  Foods that are spicy and acidic, as well as alcohol, may cause cold sore eruptions.
  • Cracked or chapped lips are a sign of dehydration (which may be accompanied by constipation). If you consume food such as chips, bread, crackers and salty foods, and very little fiber, vegetables and fruit, it is an indication that your body is low in probiotics (a gut-friendly bacteria that aids in better digestion). Yogurt is a great remedy. For our vegetarian readers, try sauerkraut as a remedy, and don’t forget copious amounts of water.
  • Crusted lips are a sign of poor digestion and a lack of quality oils in the diet. A tablespoon of pure coconut oil (organic is best) or a fish oil supplement may help.
  • Burning lips are a sign of inflammation in the digestive tract, and may be a result of poor nutrition.
  • Red aura is often caused by an allergy to foods such as wheat, soy products, milk, and a high consumption of sodas.
  • Pale lips are a sign of anemia, heart or lung issues.

The good news is that if you recognize any of the above signs and symptoms, you can, in most cases, reverse many of these poor health indicators and find your way to a healthier and better you!
